This site is dedicated to the memory of Joan Hughes.

Married in 1957 to our dear Dad, Raymond, (a D-Day Veteran). A classic case of the Guide Captain marrying the Scout Master! Joan was a teacher all her working life, eventually becoming Deputy Head of a large Primary School in South London. Joan and Raymond had 2 dearly loved daughters, Christina and Cecelia, 3 treasured grandchildren, Matthew, Hannah and Lucy, and 2 much loved Sons-in-Law, Bob and Greg. She was a wonderful Wife, Mum and Granny, devoted to her family, and a good friend. Following retirement to Chichester, Joan became Churchwarden at the church in which her parents had married, and where she and her Grandson had been baptised. She was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in December 2005 at the age of 82, and despite having put up a good fight, she died on her 51st Wedding Anniversary, 7th April 2007, aged 83. Dad died 18 months later, from pneumonia, having never really come to terms with his loss. By a cruel twist of fate he had also lost his Mother, our Grandmother, to Ovarian Cancer in 1969 and losing the 2 women, who were so influential in his life, to the same disease, had a profound effect on him. So this fund is in memory of both Mum and Dad - Ovarian Cancer robbed us of both of them. They are dearly missed and will be forever treasured in our hearts and memories.
